Hibiki Shikyoin ( () (きょう) (いん) ひびき Shikyoin Hibiki) is a character who debuts in the second season of PriPara as the main antagonist. Hibiki is a first year in high school and the grandchild of one of Paprika Private Academy's chairman investors. Her alter ego in PriPara is the "Thieving Genius" (怪盗ジーニアス Kaitō Jīniasu), who makes her first appearance in Episode 57 stealing Dressing Flower's PriTickets. Her preferred brand is Brilliant Prince.

Personality

Hibiki is a cool and charismatic wealthy Prench elite coming from a background in showbiz being a model, actor, and singer. She is highly educated, clear-minded, and gentlemanly. She loves the spectacle, mischievously scheming at best, and willingly forgoing morals to achieve her twisted values at worst; “The world is a stage, and I will be the best actor.” She also holds a high standard for herself and those around her, being extremely talented and having a high degree of technical skill in everything she does.

She is in reality very sensitive and struggles admitting her feelings and reading others’, and freaking out and violently reacting at any sentence ender. She fears that people will abandon her if she stops performing or giving people a good time as a result of her “friends” abandoning her after her parents disappeared.

Hibiki loves PriPara, possibly the Saints, and giving people a good time. She also loves using the word and concept “Revolution” a lot. She has hobbies in acting, coding and hacking, and organizing and questioning the worth of people, being very logical and technologically fluent to the point of it being called magic by Falulu. She will not respect or give any attention to ones she deems “stupid”, believing, or at least previously believing, only geniuses can be idols, which, given the nature of series, makes her appear nihilistic and cynical. Despite disregarding feelings and being naïve with hers, Hibiki deeply cares for the ones she loves. This is seen in acts like Falulu’s first day in school, sacrificing herself to save Fuwari, and bringing Ando back.

Hibiki keeps her word and actually respects skill when she sees it, i.e. Mirei in Season 2, and Shuka and Dressing Pafé in Idol Time. She also recognizes when she is being irrational like at the end of Season 2 with “ladylike” Ajimi and when she tosses the Hibiki figure in the “idiot” pile.

She basically believes, or at least used to believe, in a clear hierarchy with naturally better geniuses on top with a Randian Objectivist attitude in regards to ethics. As seen in “み~んなライバル”, or in other words, everybody should look out for themselves, which extends to everybody should further themselves without altruism or helping anybody, and the geniuses who have the skills to actually achieve change should be in charge, and those will lead to the increase of the quality of life for everyone in the process. Her performative-ness resulted in very populist policies with extreme state expenses, where she spoiled her “citizens”, much like in actual European politics, where the general consensus is heavy government spending. She justified some of her actions by saying society is just much of a liar as she is in response to Reona.

Hibiki also has a very mischievous side to herself, which enjoys deceiving the world in regards to her gender, but also pulling pranks on the main cast, as seen when she arranged Mechanee to change everyone's Jewels.

Appearance

Hibiki is a fair-skinned young individual with sharp, long-eyelashed, lime-green eyes. Hibiki has short, silver hair worn in a short boyish cut that frames the face. The bangs are long spikes that slope to the side. Her voice is much like a male voice. As a child, her hair was much longer and were in curly locks. She retained her boyish voice, except it was a bit higher.

Relationships

  • Falulu - Calls her "Princess Falulu." Often at night, Hibiki would go to see Falulu in her Phantom Thief outfit and ask her to join her Dream Team. Before knowing her real name, Falulu called Hibiki "Mr. Magician," which later became Maho-chan after her debut. Later on, she joined Hibiki and Fuwari in Tricolore.
  • Fuwari Midorikaze - When Fuwari was running around the Palps singing, Hibiki's horse Maxi ran away from Hibiki to go to Fuwari. Hibiki then met Fuwari and asked her to be a princess. Because of how free-spirited Fuwari is, Hibiki had admired her since that moment, since her image contrasts a lot with Hibiki's cynical outlook of the world. Later on, she sent Fuwari to Parajuku to perform in PriPara and become the 'Ultimate Princess'. Their relationship dropped when Fuwari turned down the Princess Candidate, but she later joined Hibiki and Falulu in Tricolore.
  • Meganii Akai - Hibiki replaced Meganii and turned PriPara into CelePara. However, the title was soon returned to Meganii and PriPara turned back to normal.
  • Andou - Hibiki's butler. Sometimes Hibiki asked Andou to enter PriPara to do some of her work. Also Hibiki and Tricolore's assistant manager in PriPara.
  • Reona West - Asked Reona to stand-in for a movie rehearsal in order to answer his question "Why do you dress up as a guy?" in Episode 74.
  • Mirei Minami - Accepted Hibiki's challenge in Episode 73.
  • Ajimi Kiki - Calls Hibiki, 'Kurukuru Chan. She knew Hibiki from childhood. Ajimi tried every day to become Hibiki's friend but Hibiki didn't believe in friends and thought they were a lie.
  • Sion Todo - Hibiki asked her on a date in Episode 62, later asking her to join her dream team, CelePara Opera Company.
  • Non Manaka - Hibiki probably thinks she has a lot of energy, potential and skill; placing Non not in the Idiot pile or the Genius pile, but the "ぴちぴち" pile, which roughly translates to "lively".
  • Laala Manaka - Hibiki considers Laala her enemy in Episode 71.
